Fareham MP calls for mental health funding to 'better harness' community hospital

THE MP for Fareham has called for a hospital in the area to receive part of new health care funding.

Suella Braverman said Fareham Community Hospital could be ‘better harnessed’ to address mental health issues in a House of Commons debate on Tuesday February 4.

Ms Braverman said: ‘In the light of the demands and challenges in the local area with young people’s mental health there is a great opportunity here for more funding and more co-ordination.

‘Fareham Community Hospital can be better harnessed, so that our young people, and also other people who need mental health support can use the facility and capitalise on it in the most effective way.’

Ms Braverman has previously called on the hospital to be turned into ‘a mental health hub.’

Under the NHS Funding Bill 2019-20, spending on NHS England will increase by £33.9 billion in cash terms by 2024.
