More than 20 vehicles pitch up on Wicor Recreation Ground in Portchester

MORE than 20 vehicles have pitched up on a field in Portchester.

The unlawful encampment was set up at Wicor Recreation Ground in Cranleigh Road at about midday.

Pictures from the site show at least 15 caravans and 11 other vehicles, including cars, vans and trucks.

Representatives from Fareham Borough Council visited the site shortly after 2pm. Their arrival was caught on video.

Fire at traveller encampment in Port Solent destroys caravan

Hampshire Constabulary is also aware of the encampment.

A police spokesman said: ‘We are aware of an unauthorised encampment at Wicor Recreation Ground.

‘A group arrived at the location around lunchtime today (August 6). We are liaising with Fareham Borough Council, who own the land.’
