Portsmouth bin fire spree continues with six fires in Buckland

FIRE crews were called to tackle six bin fires in Buckland last night – the third time in four weeks that a series of bin fires have struck the area.

Two engines from Southsea Fire Station were mobilised to the area around Seymour Close between 7.20pm last night and 12.10am this morning.

Crew manager Steve Jolliffe said: ‘We went to a series of bin shed fires in Buckland, with two vehicles.

‘The fires were all in the commercial bins.

‘There was no need to evacuate anyone and no one was hurt.

‘We have no idea at present what as to the cause of the fires.’

Last Wednesday – shortly before a group of yobs went around throwing fireworks at homes in Southsea – a firework launched into a bin in Buckland sparked a blaze in Seymour Close.

It was the second bin fire of the night, with crews called out to another blaze at the back of Barrington House.

On Sunday, October 18, a spate of bin fires in Seymour Close saw crews called out to four incidents.
