Nominations open for Fareham’s Citizen of Honour Awards 2027

The award recognises residents who have made a positive impact on their local community

Nominations are now open for Fareham Borough Council’s Citizen of Honour and Young Citizen of Honour Awards 2027, allowing people to nominate residents who have improved their local community.

The awards are run each year to recognise and celebrate Fareham residents who have demonstrated courage in the face of adversity, who have made a significant positive impact on the lives of others within the local community or who have done something amazing that deserves recognition.

There are two categories of the competition, one for adults and one for the Young Citizen of Honour Award, for residents under 18.

Previous recipients have been recognised for achievements such as fundraising for charitable causes, dedicating their time to volunteering, and taking life-saving action in emergency situations.

The winners for 2026 were Doreen Mitchell, 81, who won the award for her support for local community groups, and James Stares, who has quadriplegic cerebral palsy and won the Young Citizen of Honour Award for supporting his older brother at Portchester Cricket Club.

Nominations are open for the 2027 awards until 31 January. Nominees must be residents of the Fareham borough.

Individuals who have previously received an award may be nominated again, provided the new nomination relates to a different achievement or contribution.

The winners of categories will each receive an invitation to the Mayor Making ceremony in May with two guests, to receive their award badges from the outgoing Mayor, an invitation to a reception with the new Mayor to receive Citizen of Honour certificates, invitations to the Mayor's Civic Service and Remembrance Day Service as well as a family ticket to the pantomime at Fareham Live.

Executive Leader of Fareham Borough Council, Cllr Simon Martin, said: "The Citizen of Honour Awards recognise the exceptional individuals who make a positive and lasting impact within our communities.

“Each year, we receive inspiring nominations highlighting residents who have shown resilience, compassion and selflessness. I encourage anyone who knows a deserving individual to submit a nomination and help us celebrate the very best of Fareham."
