Two new donkeys welcomed to Hayling Island Donkey Sanctuary as supporters encouraged to buy adoption Valentine's Day gifts
TWO new faces are waiting to meet animal lovers as a donkey sanctuary encourages people to spread the love for Valentine’s Day.
Hayling Island Donkey Sanctuary has welcomed new arrivals Poppy and Millie to join the 20 other animals being cared for by a team of volunteers.
Volunteers are hoping love birds in the community will support the donkeys by giving a very special Valentine’s Day gift to a loved one.
Phill said: ‘Adopting one of our 22 loveable donkeys will make a fantastic Valentine’s Day present for a loved one and longer lasting than a bunch of flowers!
‘The sanctuary is desperate to reopen and welcome back The News’ readers and our supporters to meet our new girls.’
Arriving in early January, six-year-old Poppy and 10-year-old Millie required the centre’s long term care due to a change in their owners' circumstances.
Volunteer Phill Upshall said: ‘Poppy is an inquisitive and outgoing donkey, Little Millie is far more timid and wary of people but with time and our care she will respond.’
After much consideration due to funding difficulties during the pandemic, the team was able to offer lifelong care and love for these wonderful animals.
The sanctuary has been hit hard during the pandemic, as it has been closed to visitors for much of the year which has impacted their fundraising efforts.
Donations can be made through the charity’s website, and adoption costs £24 per year.
This includes an adoption pack complete with a personalised certificate, photograph and write up about your chosen donkey.
