We are Pompey: Jordan backs the city of culture bid to inspire fellow creatives
Meet the people backing Portsmouth’s City of Culture Bid
Portsmouth is bidding to become the 2029 City of Culture. Here we meet one of the people in the city backing the bid - and find out why Portsmouth is so special to them.
Jordan Thompson - Owner and head chef at Smoke and Mirrors, in Old Portsmouth.
Why Jordan is backing the bid
He said: “I’m backing the bid because it would put the spotlight on how creative Portsmouth and Portsmouth people can be. It will showcase us as an independent city and we are very proud of everything we have to offer. From the football to the Royal Navy and all of the independents, they are all like the veins of Portsmouth feeding into the whole area.

“I think I would like the bid to create more opportunities and inspire more people into being more creative and take a leap of faith. Everyome come and goes through Portsmouth port but now is time to show we have so much to offer - Victorious has really taken off, Gunwharf Quays seems to be a vacuum for people wanting that high end lifestyle and then there are the independents all over the city.”
Portsmouth in three words: Passionate. Proud. Independent.
