The city council will consider expanding the MD parking zone in Southsea, which surrounds but does not include Albert Road, to cover eight more roads.

If approved residents living in the additional area will need a permit to park outside their homes between 4.30pm and 6.30pm.

Councillor Lynne Stagg, the council's traffic boss, explained why the extension had been put forward. She said: 'During the MF consultation, we found that residents of Waverley Road and side roads such as Gains Road and Allens Road had parking issues which could be dealt with by the controls in the MD zone, which operates 4.30pm to 6.30pm.'

In the feedback one Allens Road resident said: 'I wish to support the idea of extending the parking permit zone in Southsea MD to include the new streets including Allens Road as I can’t find a parking spot not even on weekends. I am happy to pay for the year permit.'

However, a St Ronan's Avenue resident commented: 'My reason is it simply moves one problem on to neighbouring roads not within such a scheme.

'Vehicle owners wishing to avoid the scheme charge simply park in adjoining roads not in the scheme and thus creating a new problem. '

The new roads proposed for MD will be Allens Road, Gains Road, Herbert Road, St Ronan's Avenue, St Ronan's Road, Waverley Grove, Waverley Road and Welch Road.

A decision on the zone will be made at a meeting on February 27.
