Last weekend the eastbound side of the road was shut – leading to huge traffic queues on major Portsmouth roads and the M27.

According to Google Traffic delays are already building on the A27 and A3M this morning.

Work is continuing to repair Cosham Bridge – the road over the main Portsmouth to London railway line.

The closure will be followed by narrow lanes running over the bridge with a 50mph speed restriction in both directions for up to 10 weeks and is planned to be complete in December.

Work on the bypass – built in 1968 – will include replacing the bridge joints and waterproofing material, resurfacing the eastbound and westbound carriageways and replacing the central reservation over the bridge.

The A27 will be shut between 9pm on Friday and 6am on Monday.
