Heavy rain has resulted in flooding which has caused the M23 to be closed in both directions between Juntion 10 and Junction 11.

The M23 provides one of the main routes into Gatwick.

Highways England, along with Sussex Police, is currently working to clear the road of floodwater to enable the carriageway to reopen.

It comes after the Met Office issued a yellow weather warning for heavy rain for the south east, with more showers expected over the weekend.

Forecasters warned about difficult driving conditions, potential cancellation of buses and trains and possible flooding of homes and businesses.

Another warning has been issued for this weekend, which lasts from midnight tonight to 12pm on Sunday.

The wintry weather has already caused disruption on the railway, with train services between Fareham and Eastleigh being diverted today because of flooding on the line near Hedge End.
