Southern Rail tweeted: ‘It is with great sadness that we report a person has been hit by a train between Chichester and Havant.

‘All line are blocked between these stations whilst the emergency services work to deal with this incident.

‘Service information will follow.’

The account continued: ‘Lines are shut between Havant and Chichester.

‘We've requested rail replacement buses to run between Havant & Chichester, calling at all stations in both directions.

‘Tickets will be accepted on Stagecoach 700 bus services in the local area.

- Stagecoach 700 bus services between Littlehampton, Bognor Regis, Chichester, Havant & Portsmouth.

- SWR services between Portsmouth/Southampton/Havant and London Waterloo.

Southern Rail added: ‘Please check before you travel and allow extra time.

‘Journeys to/from Portsmouth, Southampton and other west coastway destinations will be affected today.’
