Live updates as heavy snow falls in parts of the Portsmouth area, Southampton and Hampshire

Snowfall has been reported in Swanmore – part of the area covered by the Portsmouth News – as well as in Southampton and Hedge End.

A yellow snow is in place for much of the county and parts of Portsmouth – including Hilsea and Cosham – until 11.59pm today.

On its website the Met Office says: ‘An area of snow will move across Wales and central and southern England today, becoming slow-moving for a time across parts of the Midlands.

‘This will bring 1-3 cm of snow across much of the warning area, though not all sites will see lying snow and northern parts of East Anglia may see little snow.

‘Areas above 100 m are likely to be worst affected and here 5-10 cm of snow is possible, particularly for parts of the Midlands.

‘Possible travel delays on roads stranding some vehicles and passengers.

‘Possible delays or cancellations to rail and air travel.

‘Some rural communities could become cut off.

‘Power cuts may occur and other services, such as mobile phone coverage, may be affected.’
