John Renard tells me the giveaway was the bus which tells us it had to have been in Stubbington Avenue because Laburnum Grove was not on a bus route.

John’s wife Rosemary lived immediately opposite Stubbington Avenue in the funeral directors’ premises of Harris & Son, North End.

They lived there for a time after they married way back in 1958. It looked straight across North End junction next to Bulpits.

Henry Cottrell also agreed.

He lived in Connaught Road from 1943 until 1967 and is reasonably sure that no buses ran on Laburnum Grove in the early 1950s.

He says: ‘I believe that buses ran through both Stubbington Avenue and Chichester Road.

‘They also ran through Gladys Avenue where the corporation depot was situated next to Corpus Christi Church and school.
