Moneyfields all set for 'huge' six-pointer with fellow strugglers Barnstaple Town

The Moneys are third-from-bottom, three points ahead of their visitors with four games in hand on them.

Carter views it as a must-win game as his team are still looking for their first league victory since December 7.

‘This is a huge game and three points would give us some welcome breathing space,’ he declared.

‘We have played well in our last three or four games and we need to continue that.

‘Finally, we are starting to get some consistency in selection which is something we have not had up to now.

‘In the first half of the season, we had to continually shuffle the pack.

‘Injuries, suspensions and holidays caused serious disruption.

‘Now we need to dust ourselves down and make sure that we stay in this league.

‘I would be more worried if we hadn't been playing well.

‘We have had two fantastic seasons at this level and consider ourselves a Southern League team.’

The home side will be forced into making one change with club captain Lewis Fennemore ruled out by suspension after accumulating 10 bookings.

Carter is also looking to bring in another striker after losing Ryan Pennery to injury and Rudi Plummer to Gosport Borough.

Goalkeeper Jake Hallett looks set to return after injury as Moneys aim to extend Barnstaple’s awayday woes.

The north Devonians suffered a 4-0 defeat at Slimbridge last weekend and Carter said: ‘Barnstaple face one heck of a three-and-a-half journey.

‘They also face weekend closures and diversions on the M27 along with all the extra traffic in the city because Portsmouth are at home.

‘In big games like this, it is important that you don't give the opposition any early encouragement.

‘Early doors we must work hard and put a lot of pressure on the ball.’

The Moneys have already beaten Barnstaple once this season - a 3-0 away win in October with Steve Hutchings, Joe Briggs and Jake Raine netting.

That was one of 11 successive league losses they suffered between September and November.
