The midfielder has enjoyed his loan spell at Fratton Park and is hoping to be at the club beyond the end of the season.

McGeehan moved to the Blues from Barnsley for the remainder of the campaign in January.

He scored two goals in 15 appearances during Kenny Jackett’s side’s League One promotion push before suspension of football in March.

The Pompey manager has already confirmed he’d like McGeehan to be part of his set up for the 2020-21 campaign – although the uncertain financial landscape amid the coronavirus crisis currently makes it difficult to commit to a swoop.

The ex-Luton man is out of favour at Barnsley and previously admitted he isn’t in Oakwell boss Gerhard Struber's plans going forward.

McGeehan confessed he’s spoken to Jackett about extending his stay on the south coast – and is keen to do so.

He said: ‘I’d love to be part of Pompey going forward. It’s a massive club and they have the powers to go and do well at the next level.

‘I guess the main focus is to get the job done and be promoted first then see what happens.

‘Obviously, everything has been thrown into a bit of a mess with Covid-19 and clubs aren’t going to know what they’re going to be able to do (in the transfer market).

‘But it is something that would interest me. I spoke to the gaffer about it a couple of times early on but we’ll see how it goes. I can’t really control it.

‘I’m just enjoying my time, enjoying and can’t wait to get back.’

A key reason why McGeehan moved to Fratton Park was because of Jackett’s influence.

The former Norwich ace has relished working with the Pompey chief over the past few months.

But while McGeehan does want to be at PO4 beyond his loan stay, his current focus is helping the Blues gain promotion to the Championship when football resumes.

He added: ‘I didn’t know he’d come out and said that he was interested in me! But it’s obviously good to hear.

‘One of the main reasons I came to the club was because of the gaffer. He knew me as a player and I’ve enjoyed playing under him and Joe Gallen.

‘It’s definitely something I want to do but first I just want to get promoted. That’s the main aim and everyone’s aim.

‘I’ve got my job to do here and and fully focused on that then everything will work out well for me in the end.’
