John Mousinho is reportedly ‘back on the radar’ of some of Pompey’s Championship rivals.

The Blues have enjoyed a strong start to the campaign and sit two points off the play-offs in 11th after Saturday’s 2-1 win over Millwall.

And their impressive showing this season, which has seen the Fratton Park outfit lose just one of their past eight games, is believed to have alerted some of their fellow second-tier clubs.

Pompey boss ‘back on radar’ of Championship rivals

According to talkSPORT’s chief football correspondent Alex Crook, Mousinho’s sterling efforts have not gone unnoticed, with some of the Championship's ‘bigger’ outfits supposedly monitoring the highly-rated 40-year-old.

The report states pressure is growing on Norwich City boss Phillipe Clement and Derby County’s John Eustace, while Burnley are currently on the hunt for Nicky Hayen’s successor.

Mousinho has led Pompey to their best start since their second-tier return in 2024, picking up 18 points from their opening 12 matches.

The Blues boss, of course, guided the club to the League One title in his first full campaign in management, before avoiding relegation in the previous two seasons with one of the division’s lowest budgets.

After Pompey secured an 18th-placed finish last term, speculation over Mousinho’s future grew, with Bristol City showing an interest in May.

The former Oxford United and Stevenage defender addressed the links during the summer and revealed his agent did hold ‘initial’ talks with the Robins, who later appointed Michael Skubala as Gerhard Struber’s permanent successor.

When asked about the interest in June, Mousinho told The News: ‘To a certain extent. There was some real interest at the start of the summer. The one that had the most air time was Bristol City.

‘There was an initial conversation between the club and my agent, but it didn’t get any further than that. No official approach.

‘I spoke to the club about it early on, as per my contract, just to make sure everybody's on the same page. Absolutely nothing progressed.

‘Bristol City didn’t contact the club or ask to speak to me so that got a lot more air time than perhaps what was going on behind closed doors and that was dealt with fairly swiftly.

‘That was the one bid of real interest, there were a couple of other bits of minor interest that never went beyond that.

‘To be honest it was a very calm summer after the first couple of weeks of wild speculation. And a lot of it I just watched with interest from afar knowing that it wasn’t true.’

The same talkSPORT report also namedrops Sheffield Wednesday, who parted company with boss Henrik Pedersen on Sunday followng a 2-0 defeat at Doncaster Rovers which leaves the Owls eighth in League One.

TalkSPORT, however, claim Mousinho would be unwilling to drop down to the third-tier of English football.
