Pompey rivals Burnley issue two-sentence statement on manager Nicky Hayen ahead of Blues' trip to Turf Moor

Nicky Hayern leaves Burnley after just 14 games in charge

Burnley have sacked manager Nicky Hayen ahead of their game against Pompey next weekend.

The Clarets parted company with the Belgian within two hours of their 4-1 defeat at Lincoln City on Saturday.

The loss at Sincil Bank was Hayern & Co’s sixth in the Championship, which leaves the Turf Moor outfit 22nd in the table with just eight points from their 12 matches played.

The 46-year-old had only been in charge of Burnley since July, having replaced Scott Parker.

Their one and only league of the campaign to date came against Watford on October 4.

A two-sentence statement issued by Burnley said: ‘Burnley Football Club has dismissed Head Coach Nicky Hayen with immediate effect.

‘The Board has taken the decision following a disappointing start to the Championship season.’

Pompey go to Turf Moor next weekend 10 points clear of the Lancashire outift and 11 places above them in the table thanks to their 2-1 win against Millwall at Fratton Park on Saturday.

Burnley’s last league win on home soil was against against Wolves on October 26 last season.
