Former Stoke City and Hibernian man seals Portsmouth exit as late-window departures continue

Josef Bursik has departed Pompey on loan.

Josef Bursik’s has completed his Fratton Park exit as late-window transfer activity ramps up.

The 26-year-old has put pen-to-paper on a season-long loan deal at AFC Wimbledon, the club where started his career.

The move spells the end of his time at Fratton Park, with the keeper-year-old now into the 12 months of the two-year contract he signed when arrived from Club Brugge in September 2025.

Bursik amassed 11 outings in all competitions for the Blues, keeping two clean sheets, and appeared between the sticks during Pompey’s FA Cup contest against Arsenal in January.

But, the shot stopper fell down Mousinho’s pecking order after sustaining a serious calf injury in their 3-1 triumph over Stoke City in April and has only just returned to full fitness.

The arrival of Daniel Bielica earlier this summer further dented the ex-Stoke City, Hibs and Lincoln City man’s chances at Fratton Park, with the Blues sanctioning a loan exit.

Bursik moves to boyhood club AFC Wimbledon, where he rose through the ranks before his 2017 departure but failed to register a first-team outing for the Dons.

And Bursik is excited to take on a new challenge away from Fratton Park. Speaking to the club website, he said: ‘It's great to be back.

‘It's a bit of a full circle moment. Good feeling, good memories. I’m looking forward to it.’

Bursik becomes the latest figure to leave Fratton Park in the window as exits ramp up.

Makenzie Kirk, Jordan Williams, Josh Knight and Hayden Matthews have also made the drop to League One on loan, joining Barnsley, Blackpool, Reading and Bradford City respectively.

Meanwhile, Ibane Bowat completed a permanent switch to Huddersfield Town in July.

Further exits are expected before this evening’s transfer deadline, with the futures of Harvey Blair, Luke Le Roux and Jacob Farrell under the spotlight.
