From the despair of QPR to preserving their Championship status just six games later, it has been another emotionally exhausting season for Pompey.
Certainly few among the Fratton faithful wouldn’t have anticipated staying up with two games to spare after that 6-1 hammering at Loftus Road.
Still, John Mousinho has once again overseen survival, steering the Blues into 18th position and collecting one more point than last term.
And here are Neil Allen’s Pompey player ratings for the season…

21. Ebou Adams - 8
(16 games, 2 goals) A sensational January window signing who made an instant impact and established himself as one of the Blues’ most popular players. Committed, hard-working, combative, strong in the air and with the knack for the occasional goal, he was the central midfielder Pompey desperately needed, Plus that Southampton equaliser has gone down in Fratton folklore. A real character who plays with a smile on his face, although injury restricted him to just two outings in the final eight games - but he will be a huge player next season. | Paul Thompson/ProSportsImages

22. John Swift - 6.5
(31 games, 3 goals) Can’t help but feel it was an underwhelming return to Fratton Park for the Gosport lad. He promised much in parts, particularly when handed his favoured number 10 role, yet ultimately didn’t provide enough consistency. Certainly Mousinho’s mistake to pair him with Pack in the centre of midfield at QPR won’t be forgotten, while at times he appeared well out of favour with his head coach, barely being used off the bench. Regardless, Swift has a bit of class and creativity about him which few in the current squad can match. Next season will be interesting for him. | Graham Hunt/ProSportsImages

23. Adrian Segecic - 8.5
(40 games, 11 goals) The signing of last summer for Pompey, although admittedly the field isn’t strong. From the moment he scored in his first Blues outing at Woking in a pre-season friendly, it was clear this was an energetic, attacking player with an eye for goal and armed with a thunderous left-foot. Sure enough, Segecic scored in each of his opening two Championship appearances and would eventually finish as top scorer with 11, with almost all stunning left-footed strikes. Was moved out of his accustomed number 10 position and asked to operate on the right, where he struggled mostly, going 14 games without scoring at the turn of the year. However, with eight goal contributions in the final six matches, it was a stunning end to the season as he clicked. Incidentally, Segecic scored more than double the goals than any other Pompey player. | Alun Roberts

24. Florian Bianchini - 3
(11 games, 0 goals) Much was expected of him after assisting on his first Pompey outing in a friendly against PEC Zwolle, but that was the highlight of the Frenchman’s disastrous stay. Competitively, the winger never registered a goal or assist - and didn’t play again from November after being hampered by a knee injury. His awful Pompey loan - which couldn’t be cancelled in January - was perhaps summed up in the 2-0 defeat against Sheffield Wednesday in September, with fans beginning to turn after yet another left-wing cross found the side-netting. Incidentally, he started just one more match after that and will not be fondly remembered. | Local Library
