Out-of-favour £1m man poised for Portsmouth stay as squad plans put in place
News over the future of Pompey’s £1m signing ahead of the summer transfer window opening on June 15.
Luke Le Roux is poised to remain at Pompey next season.
The News understands the South Africa international is currently wanted at Fratton Park next term, as plans are put in place for the Blues’ third campaign at Championship level.
£1m arrival wanted despite difficult Championship campaign
It’s been a difficult maiden season in England for the £1m arrival from Swedish outfit IFK Varnamo, with Le Roux restricted to just seven starts among 14 appearances for John Mousinho’s side.
The 26-year-old has made just two starts over the final 22 games of the campaign, with one of those arriving at Stoke City once Championship survival was secured.
Mousinho has been impressed with Le Roux’s attitude, however, and what the destructive operator could potentially offer moving forward.
And that means Pompey are not currently looking to offload the former Volendam man when the transfer window opens this summer.
The Blues’ midfield is set to be a significant area of focus in the months ahead, as Mousinho prepares his squad for a third season at Championship level.
Midfield surgery required after Dozzell exit for MLS
Andre Dozzell’s exit was confirmed this week, with the 27-year-old linking up with MLS side DC United as a free agent after two seasons at PO4.
Skipper Marlon Pack sees his existing deal come to a close, though the Buckland boy is expected to remain with his hometown club next term.
Ebou Adams made a big impact after his £500,000 arrival from Derby County in January, with two years to run on his agreement.
Mark Kosznovszky also remains contracted for another two years, but has been sidelined since the end of last year with a serious knee injury.
In the event of Le Roux remaining he would likely be a back-up option in the midfield pecking order behind Adams, Pack and any new faces.
A creative central midfield option is wanted by the Pompey boss, with a replacement for Dozzell also required.
Sheffield Wednesday’s Svante Ingelsson remains an option, after being pursued by Pompey in the January transfer window.
The Owls want to retain the Swedish talent, however, while there is strong interest from Stoke City. Preston North End and West Brom are other sides keen on the 27-year-old.
The transfer window opens for summer playing trading on June 15.
