Portsmouth winger Ronan Curtis not interested in January departure amid Blackburn link
Ronan Curtis has no appetite to leave Pompey during the January transfer window.
The News understands the winger is firmly focused on helping the Blues achieve promotion from League One during the second half of the season.
Curtis has been in scintillating form this campaign, netting 11 goals in 29 appearances for Kenny Jackett’s side.
The Lancashire Telegraph reported on Tuesday that Championship outfit Blackburn are admirers of the Irishman and have been running the rule over him.
But Curtis remains happy at Fratton Park and is settled on the south coast.
Curtis’ aim is to score 20 times this term, which would be a tremendous tally for the wide man and a significant improvement on his impressive maiden campaign in the Football League.
After arriving from Derry City in June 2018, Curtis plundered 12 goals in 49 games as Pompey suffered League One play-off semi-final defeat to Sunderland.
He also earned a breakthrough to the Republic of Ireland senior squad and has been capped three times.
Curtis’ two-year deal expires in June, but Pompey hold the option for an additional 12 months.
The 23-year-old told The News last month that he does have ambitions of playing at a higher level but is hoping it can be with the Blues.
He said at the time: ‘I’m happy to play for Pompey. I love living in the city and I love the club.
‘The gaffer gave me a chance by signing me here and I’m happy to have been able to pay him back.
‘I’m not worried if any transfer comes in, if I go, if I stay, contracts or whatever. I’ll just focus on myself and my own game and I’ve just got to carry it on now.
‘There is no point in pushing to leave. I’ve still got the rest of this season on my contract and another year’s option.
‘They (Pompey) are in no rush to sign me and I’m in no rush to leave so we will see what happens.
‘It has to be a big team and what not to better yourself. Every player wants to better themselves and go to the top like the Premier League.
‘Of course (Pompey can fulfil my ambitions). Back home, people say I’ve changed because I’m more bubbly and got bigger and stronger.’
