‘Owed a few apologies. Superb’: Outstanding Portsmouth verdict over revitalised ex-West Brom man after Millwall display

Pompey fans on social media have hailed John Swift’s impressive return to form following a brilliant display against Millwall on Saturday.

The 30-year-old shone at The Den as John Mousinho’s claimed a sensational 3-1 win over the promotion-chasing Lions in south London.

Gustavo Caballero and Marlon Pack were joined by the midfielder on the scoresheet, who netted his second goal for his boyhood club following his return to PO4 in the summer.

It’s been a frustrating campaign on the south coast for Swift, who has featured just 24 times in all competitions to date after his free-transfer switch from West Brom.

But the ex-Chelsea and Reading man has returned to the side in recent weeks, which has seen him start Pompey’s previous three league matches in Conor Chaplin’s injury absence.

Having been utilised in a more-advanced number 10 role, the midfielder has flourished and is a revitalised figure in the Blues’ attack.

And his displays haven’t gone unnoticed by supporters on social media, who have praised Swift for his incredible turn of form.

Ex-West Brom man hailed after latest Pompey impression

@sampfcx: John Swift. Superb. Again.

@Dann_PFC: I’m all here for this John Swift turnaround. Got the fight back in him.

@PFCperspectives: An absolutely MASSIVE three points. We are a threat to any side with this pace & power going forward. John Swift is owed a few apologies. He should have been in the 10 months ago.

@JBDS__: Tell you what, Pompey made some good signings in Jan but this John Swift guy could be the pick of them, no idea how they found him but he’s really hit the ground running.

@LaurenT66200260: Back to back wins!!!! That team looks dangerous, Swift looked brilliant

@BigPhilHooks: Isn't it amazing what happens when he plays in his natural position. Allez Le Blues

@whcallum: Marlon Pack, Ebou Adams and John Swift are looking like a very solid midfield three. Got to make Alli permanent in the summer though, absolute game changer.

@pompeanut1898: John Swift has had his three best games in a Pompey shirt & the relief on his face is so evident when he’s getting the love from us fans, it’s why he signed. Keep backing him & we’ll reap the rewards

@ODJchef: John Swift redemption….. MY NUMBER 10.

@PompeyPedro: Fair spot but for me it’s been how much better have we been without Dozzell. Pack and Adams is a far more dynamic pairing at the base of midfield and Swift at 10 is starting to look like the player we thought we’d signed in the summer. three good showings in a row from him now.

@TheChief657: I apologise Swift for doubting you, I wasn't familiar with your game.
