She tweeted: ‘People taken wrong message he sent out to the fans last night when he means he’s staying some fans took it the wrong way thinking he’s saying Pompey going down but great to see whole team fight get the result.’

Mrs Curtis also had some words of advice for Danny Cowley, after watching her son play various different roles for the team.

The seven-times-capped Eire international has played right across the forward line in recent games – including pre-season – for the Blues, starting on the right-wing for the season-opener against Sheffield Wednesday, following the sale of Marcus Harness to Ipswich.

But knowing too well that Curtis is at his most effective on the left, Marie added: ‘He was all over the place but put him on wing he’ll do his best.’

Since joining Pompey from the League of Ireland in 2018, Curtis has scored 51 goals and recorded 26 assists in 193 appearances.

He’ll hope to be back in the starting XI for Cheltenham after starting Saturday’s League One draw against Lincoln on the bench.
