Midfielder twice linked with Portsmouth available on free transfer amid Wrexham transfer interest

Well-documented former Pompey target Jamie Lindsay is on the move this summer.
The midfielder, who ex-Blues boss Danny Cowley was heavily linked with twice during his time in charge at Fratton Park, is leaving Rotherham. The Millers were keen to extend the Scot’s New York Stadium stay and had tabled a new contract offer. But no agreement on the terms of the deal was reached - leaving Lindsay to walk away for free this summer.

Hide AdA move to League One new-boys Wrexham has already been mooted, with the Racecourse Ground outfit keen on the 28-year-old back in January.
Lindsay will leave Rotherham - who announced the signings of former Blues duo Joe Rafferty and Sean Raggett last month - after 167 appearances and eight goals for the club. But those Millers stats could have been a lot fewer had the Blues been successful with their pursuit of the player in both the 2022 transfer windows.
Pompey were interested in landing the midfielder on the final day of the January transfer window. However, a move for Lindsay or Middlesbrough’s Lewis Wing - another player heavily linked - never materialised. The Blues’ only piece of business on that deadline day turned out to be the signing of Aiden O’Brien on a free transfer.
The Blues then resumed their interest in the summer of 2022. Yet their enquiries were once again rebuffed as the former Ross County man signed a two-year deal to remain in South Yorkshire.

‘It's not like we're fending off bids from Premier League clubs coming in with proper money. If somebody offered me £200,000 to £300,000 for Jamie, what am I going to do with that? It's no good to me on the last day of the window.’
Warne, now at Derby, later revealed he bore a grudge with Cowley following his attempts to sign one of his Rotherham players, which many can safely assume was Lindsay. Speaking after the Rams’ visit to Fratton Park in November 2022 - a game that produced some touchline antics - he said: ‘I just had an issue with him (Danny) once about him approaching one of my players (at Rotherham) which I wasn't best pleased with.
‘I am a bit stubborn like that. I can't let things go. You've got to fight your corner, haven't you?

I’ll still love the kid and he’ll probably play against us next season. He’s true Scottish blood like myself so from that point of view it was nice to work with him for a couple of weeks but now he moves on.’
