Engineer creates D-Day beacon honouring grandad who served in WWII

Landing Craft Tank LCT 7074 is the last surviving example of more than 800 tank-carrying landing craft that served at D-Day on 6 June 1944.

LCT 7074 will open to visitors by the end of the year

LCT 7074 (Landing Craft Tank) arrived in Southsea today and was transported to its final position at the D-Day museum after a eight year restoration. Built to transport up to ten tanks for the D-Day landings into France, the allies invasion to defeat the Nazis and liberate Europe. LCT 7074 after the landings ended up being converted into a nightclub and becoming a derelict eventually sinking at her moorings at East Float Dock, Birkenhead. LCT 7074 was salvaged in 2014 and was restored at the National Museum of the Royal Navy, Portsmouth. Pictured is the LCT 7074 moves along the seafront witnessed by several hundred people.
