Coronavirus: Kings Theatre in Portsmouth extends its closure

A THEATRE has extended its temporary closure by 30 days in response to the ongoing lockdown.

The Kings Theatre, in Albert Road, will close until Sunday, May 31. Government has ordered such venues to close under lockdown rules imposed on Monday, and set to be reviewed in three weeks.

It comes after the theatre previously announced it would close until Friday, May 1.

Ticket holders for cancelled shows will be contacted by box office staff, and tickets are still available for all shows scheduled for after the reopening of the theatre, according to a statement on its website.

The statement said: ‘With the recent statements from the UK government regarding social distancing, and ongoing conversations with the Producers of shows coming to the theatre, we are sad to announce that the Kings is extending its temporary closure up to May 31.

‘We are working tirelessly to reschedule our fabulous line up of shows in this period and if you have tickets we will be contacting you as soon as we have the news.

‘During these exceptional times we have a small box office team working off-site who are dealing with a huge number of queries.

‘All details about how to exchange tickets will be included in the individual emails we are sending to ticket holders as we confirm details with the producers.

‘May I ask you to bear with us and where possible not contact box office until directed to do so.’

The theatre is still planning to put on its Christmas pantomime, Peter Pan, starring actor John Challis, who played Boycie in Only Fools and Horses.
