Teenager appears in court over attempted murder of boy 'stabbed' in chest in Portsmouth

A teenager charged with attempted murder and possessing a blade after a boy was “stabbed” in the chest has appeared in court.

A 16-year-old boy from Leicestershire has today appeared at Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court following the incident in Portsmouth city centre on Saturday January 25.

Police were called at 5.24pm after the victim was found on Commercial Road with a suspected stab wound to his chest. It was reported the incident had taken place a short time earlier on Arundel Street. Specialist officers were deployed to the area to ensure the safety of members of the public.

The 16-year-old boy was taken to hospital for treatment, and remains in a stable condition. His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening or life-changing. He was reported to be recovering well.

During the hearing the defendant, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was remanded into youth detention until February 24 when he will appear at Portsmouth Crown Court. No pleas were entered for the charges of attempted murder and possessing a blade in public.

Meanwhile a 16-year-old boy from Portsmouth arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder has been conditionally bailed until Saturday 26 April pending further enquiries.

A 17-year-old boy from Gosport, two 17-year-old boys, a 16-year-old boy, and an 18-year-old man, all from Portsmouth arrested on suspicion of attempted murder have all been conditionally bailed until Friday 25 April while our enquiries continue.
