The Met Office adds: ‘Gusts of 60-70 mph are likely widely, perhaps briefly 80 mph in a few places, mainly on English Channel coasts.’

Portsmouth City Council is advising people to ‘avoid the seafront’ during today’s storm.

A red weather warning is in place from 10am.

Historic Dockyard closing all attractions including in Gosport

In a statement, the Historic Dockyard said: ‘ Due to extreme weather conditions we regret to confirm we will be closing Portsmouth Historic Dockyard , including the Royal Navy Submarine Museum, and Explosion Museum in Gosport; on Friday 18 February.
