'Not entirely sure' - Portsmouth boss John Mousinho provides blurry Colby Bishop update

John Mousinho has provided the latest on the knee injury that has forced Colby Bishop to sit out the Blues’ past three games

Pompey aren’t entirely sure when they’ll have Colby Bishop back and available for selection.

John Mousinho is hopeful the striker will return to action within 4-6 weeks, after he suffered a knee injury in the warm-up ahead of last weekend’s game at Norwich.

But the Blues boss confessed it’s a timeframe that might not be kept to as the club wait to get a better understanding of the 29-year-old’s complaint.

Bishop has subsequently sat out three games in a row because of the injury, which Mousinho said was down to bone bruising following the midweek draw against Wolves.

On Saturday, he provided a further update by admitting the former Accrington forward does not require surgery.

But he was less committed to nailing down an actual return date as Bishop continues to be assessed.

Providing the latest on the centre-forward following his side’s Fratton Park win against Millwall, Mousinho told BBC Solent: ‘(The) update at the moment is we're still not 100-percent on how long he's going to be out.

‘We were hopeful it was just going to be a couple of weeks. It looks like it's going to be a little bit longer than that.

‘No surgery (is) required. Hopefully he will be back within say four to six weeks, but again we're not entirely sure.

‘We've just got to wait for a little bit of that bone bruising and everything to settle down in his knee.’

Competition for places in Pompey’s striker department

Bishop has featured nine times in the league for Pompey this season, four of which have come from the bench.

So far he’s registered one goal this term, with his effort against Blackburn rescuing the Blues a share of the points against Tony Mowbray’s side.

Competition for a starting striker spot intensified during the summer when Pompey recruited both Marko Milovanovic and Tyrese Shade during the transfer window.

Milovanovic has scored three times in his 11 appearances to date in all competitions, while Shade is yet to get off the mark for his new club.

The Blues have also welcomed back Thomas Waddingham from injury since Bishop pulled up in the build-up to the game against Norwich at Carrow Road.

An ankle injury had sidelined the 21-year-old since the opening game of the 2026-27 campaign against West Ham.

Yet the former Brisbane Roar forward was named on the bench against Wolves.

He then marked his return to match action with the winner against Millwall, which came just 11 minutes after his introduction as a second-half substitute.

Waddingham’s presence will certainly give Pompey a major boost in their forward department as the Blues prepare to play a waiting game over Bishop’s return.
