Huge Portsmouth favourite walking disciplinary tightrope as suspension looms ahead of Stoke City

Pompey disciplinary latest as suspension looms for midfielder.

Pompey continued their outstanding run of form in midweek, with a huge 3-1 win over high-flying Swansea City.

The fixture list doesn’t ease up for John Mousinho’s troops, however, with fourth-placed Stoke City travelling to Fratton Park for a mouth-watering showdown on Saturday.

A win for Pompey could lift them as high as sixth and extend their impressive vein of form to just one defeat in 11.

However, there will be one member of Mousinho’s squad who will have to tread carefully against the Potters after picking up his fourth booking of the season in Tuesday’s win over the Swans.

Huge Pompey favourite walking on suspension tightrope

Ebou Adams could become the first Blues player this term to be handed a one-game suspension for receiving five yellow cards.

The 30-year-old now has to survive the next five matches to avoid being slapped with a one-game ban.

EFL suspension rules state that any player who accumulates five yellow cards before and including game-week 19 must serve a one-match ban.

Ten yellows earned before or up to the end of match-week 37 will result in a two-game suspension, while 15 bookings accrued before the end of the season will warrant a three-game ban.

This means Adams will now be walking on a suspension tightrope for Pompey’s next six fixtures, which includes contests against Stoke City (H), Bolton Wanderers (A), West Ham (H), Wrexham (A) and West Brom (H).

Marlon Pack will likely return to the engine room against the Potters on Saturday after being rested from the start in midweek.

The Comoros international has started all of the Blues’ previous six matches, with his fitness likely playing a part in the extent of Adams' involvement on Saturday.

Pompey have picked up 21 bookings so far this season, the fifth lowest in the Championship.

Although Adams leads the way, Marko Milovanovic and Jayden Meghoma are not far behind with both picking up three bookings so far.

Ryan Kavuma-McQueen, Terry Devlin and Zak Swanson have all been shown yellow cards on two occasions, while Iyad Mohamed, Nicolas Schmid, Marlon Pack, Regan Poole and Rocco Shein booked just once.

All eyes will no doubt be on Adams as he looks to avoid a one-game ban in the coming five matches for the Blues.
