He said: '˜The onus is on clubs to take their commitments seriously.

'˜We feel let down after preparing for both games. Personally I don't understand it.

'˜Hampshire got the cup dates out early so clubs could plan for them.

'˜Clubs need to face up to the fact that once they enter the competitions they have a commitment to them.

'˜It is disappointing because if you look at the Hampshire competitions this weekend they have been peppered with walkovers.

'˜It might suggest the days of the county cup games are numbered. I hope that is not the case.'

Portsmouth will make up for their lack of action by playing a Royal Navy under-23 side at Burnaby Road on Wednesday (7.30pm).

Gosport & Fareham and Locksheath Pumas were also left kicking their heels.

Gosport were set to play Winchester in the Hampshire Bowl but received a bye.

Locksheath were handed a walkover against Southampton in the Plate.
