Great South Run 2024: Runners able to claim medal and t-shirt after event was cancelled - find out how

Runners will have the chance to claim a medal and T-shirt for the cancelled Great South Run after months of hard work.

The Great South Run organisers are giving runners a chance to claim a finishers medal and t-shirt after the event was cancelled on Sunday, October 20. Many runners still took to the streets to take on the challenge after months of hard work and training.

The organisers have now released a claim form for participants that have run the 10 miles, or choose to do so in the next week. A spokesperson said: “We were really sorry to have had to cancel the 2024 Great South Run (10 miles), due to the adverse weather from Storm Ashley.

“We know how much this event means to our runners, and how disappointing the news will have been for everyone who had planned and prepared for the big day, with many having already raised large amounts of money for charity.

“Our team did everything they could to give the event the best chance of going ahead as planned, however the safety of participants, staff and volunteers is our number one priority.  The decision to cancel was made after comprehensive discussions with the Met Office, medical & safety teams, local authorities and key stakeholders.

“We’ve been in touch with participants with details about how they can roll their entry over into next year’s event or claim a refund in line with our terms and conditions.

“We know event day is only part of the challenge, and that participants will have put in many miles towards their training already. We’re therefore offering participants the chance to claim a medal and t-shirt free of charge, by completing a run of 10 miles or further.”

To claim a free finisher medal and t-shirt participants will need to complete an online form providing their booking reference and proof that they have completed 10 miles or over. This can be a screenshot from a tracking app or a photo of the activity tracked on a watch.

The deadline to submit the form is Monday, November 11 at 9am. All items will be sent out after this date. Next year’s Great South Run is scheduled to take place on Saturday, October 18 and Sunday, October 19.

The route is still being worked out as the closures along Clarence Esplanade mean it cannot follow its usual route.
