Winchester Christmas market named one of the best in the UK
Christmas is on its way
A Hampshire city has been recognised for having one of the best Christmas markets in the country.

At the end of this month, wooden chalets will line the space next to Winchester Cathedral as the city’s annual Christmas market returns for another year. Twinkling lights, mulled wine, roasted chestnuts, music and gifts from independent traders make for a stunning festive experience you won’t want to miss.

And new research by TrainPal has highlighted the best 20 Christmas markets without the huge crowds this year, with Winchester ranking 8th.
The analysis has taken the combination of visitor numbers, rail travel trends and accessibility into account to give each place a score out of 100, with Winchester scoring 79.45.
Scoring top place in the guide is Canterbury, followed by Coventry, Glasgow and Leicester.
The free Hampshire market will take place from Friday, November 20 until Tuesday, December 22.
Felix Parker-Smith, PR manager at TrainPal said: “Christmas markets are a brilliant excuse to get together with friends and family, explore somewhere new and enjoy a little festive magic. But nobody wants to spend their day battling crowds or struggling for somewhere to park the car.
"Our research shows there are many fantastic Christmas markets across the UK that offer everything people love about the festive season without necessarily attracting the same visitor numbers as the biggest destinations.”
