An independent school in Havant has said that it is ‘pleased’ with the outcome of its monitoring Ofsted inspection following a requires improvement rating.

Releasing Potential School, located in Kingscroft Court, received a requires improvement Ofsted rating in January of this year - but it has been making the necessary changes to improve. The monitoring visit took place June 19, and the visit outlined that the school has started meeting some of the requirements since its previous inspection.

The monitoring visit said that the school has ‘ensured that the relevant management checks have been carried out on members of the proprietor body, trustees and governors.’

The inspection report said: “A governing body has now been established and met for the first time in May 2024. Governors are receiving relevant training to understand their role in holding leaders to account for key aspects of the provision and the requirements of the standards. It is too early to measure the impact of their work.

“Some safeguarding leaders are new to their roles. They are knowledgeable about pupils’ individual vulnerabilities and about the potential risks pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities face. The school works closely with external agencies, when necessary, to support pupils and their families.”

There are still some areas of the school’s inspection that have are not being met, according to the recent visit - but the chief executive officer has said that the school will ‘continue the progress.’ The report said that there needs to be continued improvements to the welfare, health and safety of pupils and the quality of leadership and management within the school.

Mike King, chief executive officer, said: “We are in general pleased with the outcome of the recent Ofsted Monitoring Visit, which clearly recognised the progress we have made and has helped shape the Development Plan that we have in place.

“Ofsted clearly recognised that the children were safe within our care and the challenges involved with meeting the needs of our students were significant.

“We have a new Head of School starting in November, who will help us to continue the progress we have made with the school.”
