‘Teams are wary of us’: Portsmouth midfield general revels in ugly qualities making Championship impact after Burnley draw

Pompey are now a side Championship rivals don’t want to face.

That’s the verdict of Ebou Adams, after his team grafted to a 0-0 draw at Burnley today.

John Mousinho’s side made it five games unbeaten and one loss in nine, with their robust qualities on display at Turf Moor.

Adams feels Pompey are a team who rivals will be wary of going up against, as they make it hard for opponents to break them down.

He said: ‘I think that’s how it should be.

‘Whether it’s home or away we should never be an easy team to beat.

‘We should never give teams second balls or allow them to play how they want to play.

‘I think once we can establish we’re a hard team to beat we can go and turn teams over.

‘Teams are wary of us at the moment and that’s a good thing.

‘It’s a good point and Burnley are a good side - you’ve got to respect them.

‘There were nearly moments and it feels a bit like we’re a nearly team at the moment.

‘There were lots of moments when we got into the final third and then didn’t get right the shot off, or it was the wrong pass or decision.

‘The ball was flashing across goal and we should have someone there to tap it in.

‘Those are the things we need to improve on, but we’re getting into those areas. Maybe on another day they go in.

‘But if we’re a difficult team to beat that’s good, then we can concentrate on the final third.

‘If we can turn those nearly moments into goals then who knows where we can go?’

Adams was 'totally baffled' over one of the game's key moments, as Marlon Pack had what looked a legitimate goal ruled out in the first half.

Ryan Kavuma-McQueen was harshly adjudged to have fouled keeper Gregoire Coudert, as he punched the ball to Pack who lobbed a finish into the unguarded net.

Adams added: ‘I’m honestly totally baffled.

‘I was asking the question (to the officials) and didn’t get an answer.

‘All I’ve seen is the keeper come out and punch it.

‘The keeper has initiated the contact. He’s come and punched it, it isn’t the best punch and it’s landed with Marlon. It should be 1-0 to us.’
